IRES Alumni Reunion

On 16 November 2016, the Department of International Relations and European Studies (IRES) held its first ever Alumni event that brought former and current faculty and students together at the Metropolitan University Prague (MUP) Žižkov building. The Alumni event not only marked a decade since the foundation of IRES but it also produced a springboard for celebrating the 15th Anniversary of founding of MUP.
Conference on Contemporary Issues and Trends in South and Southeast and East Asian Societies Successfully Closed

On November 11, 2016, the Department of Asian Studies and the Center for Indo-Pacific Studies at Metropolitan University Prague organized yet another of its annual conferences dedicated to Asian countries. It was for the eighth time that a group of leading World and Czech specialists met in the premises of the Žižkov Building of MUP to discuss contemporary issues in Asia. Their presentations were followed by a number of distinguished guests as well as many students of the University.
Preparatory Courses for Cambridge English Exams
This year as usual the Foreign languages department is holding preparatory courses for Cambridge English exams. These courses are intended for students who would like to focus on more intensive preparation for Cambridge English exams. The lessons are based on a communicative approach and enable students to acquire the necessary exam techniques and strategies. The courses are taught by experienced teachers who are certified examiners for Cambridge English Language Assessment.
The Department of IRES at Upfront in War Zones

On the occasion of the 15th Anniversary of the MUP, the Department of International Relations and European Studies (IRES) organized a commented tour in the DOX Centre of Contemporary Art. On the 20th of May, all participating students met with the Head of the Department, Mitchell Belfer and the Deputy Head, Šárka Kolmašová in the main hall of the centre. Students had an opportunity to visit a unique architectonical masterpiece, which was intentionally designed as a labyrinth to resemble the disarray of contemporary art. The primary aim of the tour was a commented exhibition of photographs from war zones with an apt title “Upfront”. Overall, the centre seeks to present exhibitions showing how politics is merging with art, including thought provoking and controversial installations. Upfront accomplished the mission completely.
African Ambassadors and other diplomats visited Metropolitan University Prague to debate with students

The heads of seven African diplomatic missions accredited in the Czech Republic kindly accepted the invitation, extended by the Department of International Business, to participate in a discussion with students on the topic of "The Prospects of Africa".
Middle Eastern Conflicts in Local Perspective
Western politicians, media, and public are mostly preoccupied by the impact of the current Middle Eastern turbulences on the West itself. “Had the Western leaders paid appropriate attention to the atmosphere in the Middle East a few years earlier, today we would be hardly surprised by the wave of refugees and migrants, or by the fact that many Middle Easterners prefer various radical groups over legitimate governments,“ says Břetislav Tureček, Head of the Centre for the Middle Eastern Studies at Metropolitan University Prague.
Quiz Night

On Wednesday evening 11th May 2016 six teams, made up of a mix of students and teachers, went head to head in the first ever MUP pub quiz night held at the Travellers’ Club Arabic Restaurant. The quiz was put together and hosted by the Department of Foreign Languages and attracted students from Anglophone Studies, International Relations and European Studies, International Business, and Media Studies, as well as several Erasmus students.
