South Africa and Beyond – An International Student Trade Fair at MUP
19. 5. 2025 Author: Tereza Němečková On Tuesday, 13 May 2025, we had the honour of welcoming students from the Tshwane School for Business and Society, our partner university in South Africa, who participated in an international student trade fair organized by the African Studies Centre and the Department of International Business. The visit of 11 students from South Africa, accompanied by their professor, Bryan Robinson, marked their second time at MUP – the first visit took place in 2023. It appears we have begun a new tradition of student exchanges with one of South Africa’s leading educational institutions.
During their stay in Prague, the students had the opportunity to visit two Czech companies delivering promising technological innovations relevant even to (South) African markets: Prusa Research, known for their cutting-edge 3D printers, and Braains, which develops hardware and software solutions for Bitcoin mining.
The highlight of the visit took place at MUP on Tuesday, 13 May, when the South African students joined Czech and international students from the Master’s programme in Regional Studies and International Business for the International Student Trade Fair. Presentations were given on the South African, Czech, and Bengali economies, accompanied by delicious food tastings and vibrant cultural exchanges.
Events like this provide a unique opportunity for students not only to gain new knowledge but, more importantly, to build international networks and partnerships – some of which may develop into real business collaborations in the future.

In April 2026, the Center for Security Studies and the Department of International Relations and European Studies at Metropolitan University Prague hosted thought-provoking lectures examining the evolving landscape of violent extremism. Delivered by Sean McCafferty and Adam Hanzel, both Marie Skłodowska-Curie GLOCTER Project PhD fellows, the sessions explored how terrorist actors exploit the digital environment and how new, harder-to-define forms of extremism are reshaping traditional security frameworks. Together, the lectures offered students a comprehensive look at both the online dynamics of contemporary terrorism and the emerging challenges posed by accelerationist and nihilistic violent extremist movements.
