Indian Ambassador Visits MUP to Discuss Closer Cooperation
25. 2. 2025 Author: Michal Kolmaš Indian Ambassador Raveesh Kumar paid a ceremonial visit to Metropolitan University Prague (MUP). During a meeting with the university’s rector and representatives of the Department of Asian Studies, he highlighted the department as one of the few in the Czech Republic focusing on India and outlined possible avenues for future collaboration.For over 15 years, the Department of Asian Studies has been offering a Master’s program in Asian Studies, which has recently expanded to include Bachelor’s programs in International Relations and Asian Studies. These programs feature courses dedicated to Indian society, culture, and politics, primarily taught by Assoc. Prof. Blanka Knotková-Čapková and Dr. Jiří Krejčík.
In mid-February, Assoc. Prof. Knotková-Čapková returned from India, where she received yet another award for her work on Indian philosopher and writer Rabindranath Tagore. During her visit, she also established a new bilateral agreement with Swami Vivekananda University in Kolkata, making it the fourth Indian university where MUP students can study for up to one year.
The ambassador praised the department’s activities related to India and expressed his desire to foster Indian studies at Czech institutions. He also discussed with the department members ways to encourage more Czech students to visit India for academic and cultural exchange.

In April 2026, the Center for Security Studies and the Department of International Relations and European Studies at Metropolitan University Prague hosted thought-provoking lectures examining the evolving landscape of violent extremism. Delivered by Sean McCafferty and Adam Hanzel, both Marie Skłodowska-Curie GLOCTER Project PhD fellows, the sessions explored how terrorist actors exploit the digital environment and how new, harder-to-define forms of extremism are reshaping traditional security frameworks. Together, the lectures offered students a comprehensive look at both the online dynamics of contemporary terrorism and the emerging challenges posed by accelerationist and nihilistic violent extremist movements.
