The Department of Asian Studies cordially invites to a public lecture titled "Japanese FDI in the Post-war Period".This lecture examines trends of Japan‘s FDI and external economic policies in the post-war period into the following four phases: 1) 1950s-1960s, 2) 1970s-early 1980s, 3) mid-1980s-1990s, and 4) after 2000. Particularly, since the mid-1980s, the Japanese economy has globalised by replacing its export strategy with foreign direct investment. Consequently, Japan has become one of the leading investors in the world.

SPEAKER: Kaoru Natsuda, Professor, College of Asia Pacific Studies, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Japan & Visiting Scholar Department of Asian Studies, Metropolitan University of Prague, Czechia
Prof. Natsuda is a Professor at the College of Asia Pacific Studies, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan. He obtained his Ph.D in Economics from the University of Sydney, Australia, and his MA in International Development Studies from the University of Bradford, UK. His research interests include industrial policy, industrial development, the automotive industry, the textile and garment industry, and political economy in Asia and Central Europe. He has been widely published, including in journals such as Review of International Political Economy, European Journal of Development Research and Canadian Journal of Development Studies. His book (co-authored with John Thoburn), Automotive Industrialisation: Industrial Policy and Development in Southeast Asia was published by Routledge in 2021.

Financial Reporting Through Risk Lenses

On Wednesday, December 3, Metropolitan University Prague experienced an interesting afternoon. The Financial Management and Digital Economy programmes welcomed a guest with first-hand experience from the world of corporate finance – Jaroslav Volmut, Risk Manager at Ernst & Young. His guest lecture “Financial Reporting Through Risk Lenses” offered a behind-the-scenes look at how companies operate in an environment where the accuracy of financial statements is measured not only in numbers, but also in accountability, reputation, and sometimes even the personal risk borne by senior management.
