Ambassador of Estonia on Practical Aspects of Diplomatic Protocol

15. 5. 2018 Author: David Erkomaishvili Upon MUP invitation on 9 May ambassador of Estonia H.E. Mr. Sten Schwede delivered a guest lecture for students of International Relations and European Studies program entitled “Diplomatic Protocol: What does it Mean in Practice.” The lecture focused on practical aspects of diplomacy and was organised as part of the course “Etiquette and Diplomatic Protocol.”

In his lecture, Mr. Schwede presented practitioner’s perspective and focused on diplomatic protocol. Examples of credentials presentation and working with foreign ministries in the Czech republic, Slovenia, and in various other countries were discussed. During the lecture, Mr. Schwede also spoke about the cases of use and misuse of diplomatic immunities, the role of social media in diplomacy and answered students’ questions.

The lecture was fallowed by a lively discussion with students who were interested in details of diplomats’ activities, various aspects concerning daily diplomatic tasks and a work of an ambassador. The lecture was open for students of other MUP departments and gathered wide attendance.
