12/12/2013 - Lyžařská akce v Harrachově
Sportovní klub MUP zorganizoval před vánoci prodloužený víkend s lyžařským vyžitím v okolí Harrachova. Své dojmy z akce popsala studentka Wen Tang z čínské Southwest Jiaotong University, která je na MUP na studijním pobytu (Anglophone Studies, magisterské studium):Sport: An International Language!
I started my life in Prague on 2 October 2013. When I saw the timetable of sports classes, I was so happy there are a lot of courses to choose from and finally I made my decision to choose beach volleyball and climbing. At first, I was a little bit afraid; I even hesitated to attend my first class. But now, I have to say, it’s my most wonderful decision to go, because while attending the classes, I got to know the MUP sports group, it brought a lot of joy in my Prague life later!
In November, Milan, our group leader, organized a hiking weekend in Orlické hory, and I was very lucky to join this event. We went hiking in the daytime, breathed the fresh air and experienced the beautiful nature of the Czech Republic. In the evening, we played many games, some physical activities as “dancing in the swimming pool” and some intellectual team games as Europe knowledge quiz competition. On 12 December, we had another activity in Harrachov! This time we went skiing for 3 days! Being born in south of China, it’s rare for me to see the snow in winter, and this was practically my first real skiing experience and it was super wonderful! It was an unforgettable experience I want to thank the people in the sports group who helped me, encouraged me and taught me with great patience.
Most of the participants of these trips were from the Czech Republic; it’s a really good way to get to know the culture and feel the atmosphere being surrounded by local people. These trips were not only about sports, we shared a lot about our different cultures, too, and I also tasted a lot of traditional Czech meals and of course the wonderful Czech beer! I think, for an international student, the language and communication is definitely a problem more or less, but after I met this group and joined all these activities, I found out how people communicate not only with words, but also in many other non-verbal ways, especially when they share the enthusiasm for sports, healthy lifestyle, and a positive attitude. I think these non-language points are even more important than words, and that is how I met these wonderful people!
Time flies; this is even more true when you are having fun. I think that the experience with MUP sports group will remain a golden unforgettable memory for the rest of my life.
All in all, sport is really an international language!

Ve čtvrtek 12. prosince jsme se vydali vlastními auty do Harrachova. Ubytování jsme měli objednané v penzionu Bernardýn pár minut pěšky od sjezdovky. Penzion byl moc pěkně zařízený, s barem, skoro celý obsazený naší skupinou (zcela tichou a klidnou samozřejmě). První večer Milan přichystal různé seznamovací hry, kterých se statečně zúčastnili i dva studenti Erasmu – Ital a Číňanka. Přestože ani jeden z nich nerozuměl česky, oba skvěle zapadli do party.
V pátek jsme si všichni užili krásného počasí na sjezdovce. Milan s Vítkem využili svého nadání (jeden učit lyžovat a druhý mluvit anglicky:P) naučit Číňanku Wen (Soomi), která poprvé v životě viděla sníh na vlastní oči, sjezdovat. A opravdu se jim to povedlo! Soomi si lyžování oblíbila a poctivě „dřela“ každý den.
V sobotu jsme se rozdělili. Část jela na běžky a část na sjezdovky, kde se oficiálně otevírala sezóna. Pod sjezdovkou celý den hrála hudba a probíhaly různé akce, přehlídky a nechyběla ani tombola. Nepříjemností bohužel bylo, že se zaplnila sjezdovka a museli jsme stát frontu na lanovku. Na druhou stranu ale byly levnější permanentky. Večer jsme šli všichni hromadně na večeři a užili si poslední večer – většina z nás si ho užila tolik, že druhý den jsme se šli už jen projít a vyrazili domů. Kromě statečné Číňanky Soomi.
Akce byla opravdu vydařená a na své si přišli všichni účastníci. Užili jsme si spoustu srandy, sluníčka i sportovního vyžití na čerstvém vzduchu.

In April 2026, the Center for Security Studies and the Department of International Relations and European Studies at Metropolitan University Prague hosted thought-provoking lectures examining the evolving landscape of violent extremism. Delivered by Sean McCafferty and Adam Hanzel, both Marie Skłodowska-Curie GLOCTER Project PhD fellows, the sessions explored how terrorist actors exploit the digital environment and how new, harder-to-define forms of extremism are reshaping traditional security frameworks. Together, the lectures offered students a comprehensive look at both the online dynamics of contemporary terrorism and the emerging challenges posed by accelerationist and nihilistic violent extremist movements.
Metropolitní univerzita Praha získala darem 74 knih o Japonsku

Katedra asijských studií MUP obdržela mimořádně cenný knižní dar v rámci grantového projektu Read Japan, který organizuje The Nippon Foundation za podpory Velvyslanectví Japonska. Do univerzitní knihovny MUP tak nově přibylo 74 knih věnovaných Japonsku, které zahrnují jak současné akademické publikace, tak umělecké knihy a významná díla japonské prózy.
An Event to Remember: MUP International Lunch!

On Friday, March 27, taking full advantage of MUP's amazing 'no classes on Fridays' schedule, it was time for our traditional MUP Lunch Event. Over 50 exchange students and also MUP Buddy Team members shared their local foods, drinks and created an international environment for the lunch.
