The Department of International Relations and European Studies at Metropolitan University Prague cordially invites you to a lecture and discussion on the topic of Turkish-Russian Relations: Between Competition and Rapprochement.Date: 6 April 2016, 16:30-18:30
Venue: MUP Strašnice building, Dubečská 900/10, Prague 10, Room 205
Guest Speaker: Dr. Vügar Imanbeyli, Department of Political Science and International Relations, Istanbul Şehir University, Turkey
The relations between Turkey and Russia have significantly deteriorated since November 2015, when Russian jet fighter was shot down by the Turkish side. In the context of the refugee crisis that the EU is facing and instability in the post-Soviet space, the stand-off between two major powers of the region has an important implication for the Eurasian continent.
The lecture and discussion will focus on the history of Turkish-Russian relations with special emphasis on the period after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the competing narratives that the two sides have in their visions of the neighbourhood.
