The Department of Asian Studies invites you to a special cultural event – Shamisen Concert & Nihon-Buyō Dance Performance. Experience the beauty of traditional Japanese music and dance, followed by an interactive workshop for students! Featuring leading Japanese artists Mayumi Ono, Haruki Isobe and Markéta Reiter Fujita (shamisen, koto) and Eirin Nishikawa (nihon-buyō).WHEN: Monday, 7 April 2025, from 10:00

Mayumi Ono is a Japanese shamisen and koto performer from Ōita. A student of the famous Kiyoko Miyagi, she founded and led several important cultural institutions including Jiuta Koto Miono Kai. She actively promotes hōgaku through performances, workshops, and international tours. As president of the Association of Classic Japanese Arts, she focuses on education and preserving traditional Japanese music.
Eiren Nishikawa is a Kyoto-born instructor of Nishikawa-style Japanese dance and a lecturer at Tezukayama University. She has performed in Japan and abroad, blending traditional dance with other arts. Since 2011, she has been a Kyoto Tourism Hospitality Ambassador, promoting Kyoto’s heritage through performances, lectures, and guided tours.

Katedra asijských studií MUP obdržela mimořádně cenný knižní dar v rámci grantového projektu Read Japan, který organizuje The Nippon Foundation za podpory Velvyslanectví Japonska. Do univerzitní knihovny MUP tak nově přibylo 74 knih věnovaných Japonsku, které zahrnují jak současné akademické publikace, tak umělecké knihy a významná díla japonské prózy.
