23/01/2014 - Sexual Violence in Ethno-Nationalist Conflicts: The Case of Former Yugoslavia
On 23 January 2014, the Metropolitan University Prague kindly hosted another of the STAR seminars, this time the discussion concerned a rather heavy topic: sexual violence in armed conflict.Kateřina Krulišová (second-year PhD. candidate at IRES) introduced the theoretical underpinnings of current academic debate on the topic and presented selected case study: the conflict in the Former Yugoslavia, which provoked lively and open debate not only about the causes of this problem, but also possible solutions.
Kateřina Krulišová is a second-year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of International Relations and European Studies. Throughout her studies, she has focused on sexual violence in the context of international relations, the role of women in international security, and gender and security studies.
STAR (Student Audience for Research) runs a series of free seminars every academic year. The seminars are designed for students from MUP Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral Degree programmes, as well as for all interested public from other institutions. STAR seminar series serve as a laboratory for students, practitioners, and interested parties to freely discuss issues of various importance and interest, share and brainstorm ideas, get new insights.

Studenti mediálních studií mají v 11. patře na Jarově k dispozici televizní studio, kde si mohou vyzkoušet vedení rozhovorů a moderování. V rámci novinářského certifikátu natáčejí ve druhém a třetím ročníku vlastní reportáže. Ale stejně návštěva "opravdové televize", kde mohou sledovat vznik vysílání v přímém přenosu, je každoročně zážitkem, který se hluboce zapíše.
Digital Extremism and Emerging Threats: Insights from Expert Lectures at MUP

In April 2026, the Center for Security Studies and the Department of International Relations and European Studies at Metropolitan University Prague hosted thought-provoking lectures examining the evolving landscape of violent extremism. Delivered by Sean McCafferty and Adam Hanzel, both Marie Skłodowska-Curie GLOCTER Project PhD fellows, the sessions explored how terrorist actors exploit the digital environment and how new, harder-to-define forms of extremism are reshaping traditional security frameworks. Together, the lectures offered students a comprehensive look at both the online dynamics of contemporary terrorism and the emerging challenges posed by accelerationist and nihilistic violent extremist movements.
Metropolitní univerzita Praha získala darem 74 knih o Japonsku

Katedra asijských studií MUP obdržela mimořádně cenný knižní dar v rámci grantového projektu Read Japan, který organizuje The Nippon Foundation za podpory Velvyslanectví Japonska. Do univerzitní knihovny MUP tak nově přibylo 74 knih věnovaných Japonsku, které zahrnují jak současné akademické publikace, tak umělecké knihy a významná díla japonské prózy.
