05/02/2014 - Putování Irskem s humorem a hudbou

Svědectví o Irsku, jeho historii, obyvatelích a přírodě poutavě zprostředkoval historik katedry Anglofonních studií Dr. G. Power. Jeho humorné postřehy doprovodilo hudební kvarteto „Fonohra“, které hrálo irské melodie a nápěvy s neortodoxní invencí v originálních aranžmá. Docent Jan Volín, pedagog katedry Anglofonních studií, je zpěvákem a kytaristou Fonohry. Barbora Tuzarová, studentka prvního ročníku Anglofonních studií, okouzlila obecenstvo ukázkou irského tance. Studenti a pedagogové Metropolitní univerzity, zájemci o studium na univerzitě anebo pouze lidé, kteří mají rádi Irsko, nalezli souznění a podobnosti mezi zdánlivě vzdálenými národy a rozcházeli se s příslibem dalších podobných setkání.

Petr Štalmach, student Anglofonních studií, napsal báseň „Irish EmPowerment“ jako reflexi na prožitý večer:

Irish EmPowerment

The event was in a small cafe close to a train station,
it was warm inside and without problems with sanitation,
with a wide selection of beverages, both hot and cold,
which in quite reasonable prices were sold,
the place was later totally packed and fit to burst,
so I am glad I came as one of the first.

An introduction to Ireland was delived by Mr Gerald Power,
who spends lecturing on the same, and more, many an hour,
he is also a native of this beautiful, sparsely-populated land,
and so his lived experience is truly not second-hand.

But the event was mostly music-filled,
with a band, both enthusiastic and skilled,
led by Mr Jan Volin, another passionate teacher,
the position, in which I´d never expect him to feature,
songs had usually Ireland-inspired-themes,
about revolt, love and bubbling streams.

There was also a short demonstration of Irish dance,
whose rhythm can easily put you into trance,
it was performed by Barbora and if I am wrong,
then I say "Sorry" in this poem/song.

The event was ended by all singing The Devil Is Dead,
whose refrain I could not get out of my head,
it was a nice way some time to spend
and for this the entertainers I commend.
