Security and migration are topics surrounded by various myths and misinformation. At the same time they represent topics which in many countries have already significantly influenced the results of national elections. In this regard, Morocco is a fascinating country full of contrasts. On the one hand it attracts thousands of refugees and migrants, mainly from Sub-Saharan Africa. On the other, many Moroccans leave the country to settle down in Europe. All the while, the Morocco-Spain migration route is slowly becoming the main route used for illegal migration to Europe. From the security point of view, Moroccan footprints could be tracked in a number of recent terrorist attacks in Europe despite the fact that Morocco has adopted one of the strictest anti-terrorist policies in the region as shown by their not having any instances of terrorist attacks in the country within the last six years.

The lecture is a part of Kapuscinski Development Lectures. The project is a joint initiative of the European Commission, the United Nations Development Programme and the Metropolitan University Prague (Department of International Business). The project is funded by the European Commission. The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Prague has become an official partner of the event.
